Child Development and the Physical / Mental Connection:

As we grow from conception to adulthood, our development follows a well-organized pattern. The brain and nerves grow in conjunction with the rest of the body and in fact, the movement of the body stimulates their development. Many kids with social, academic, and behavioral disorders also exhibit physical symptoms like clumsiness, or poor muscle tone. This is because the cerebellum, the part of the brain that coordinates movement, is also an integral part of coordinating sensory information (5 senses) and thoughts.

Many parents report that they noticed that their children did not achieve certain milestones like crawling or walking when expected or that some milestones were skipped altogether. If the development is disturbed at any point either before or after birth, the brain and its connections may not form properly. Causes of disturbances to development can include:  exposure to toxic chemicals, improper nutrition, lack of oxygen, lack of stimulating movement, or bacterial and fungal infections.

Our program applies a multi-faceted approach to a multi-faceted problem. Many researchers have suggested different causes for Autistic Spectrum Disorders, including Asperger’s and PDD, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other processing disorders. There have been major advances in both the neurological and biological way of evaluating these disorders and it is felt that part of the problem is a functional disconnection between the right and left side of the brain. We utilize a comprehensive neurological assessment to determine if your child may be experiencing a Functional Disconnection Syndrome (FDS) and we rely on specific biological tests to uncover any underlying digestive, metabolic, or allergic problems that may be contributing to problems your child is experiencing.
